Reducing taxes
Commissioner Andy Meyers led successful efforts to lower the County's property tax rate from 65¢ when he first took office to 45¢, providing cumulative savings of well over $1 billion for Fort Bend taxpayers. Meyers consistently fights to control expenditures to keep taxes low.
Shortly after taking office, he led the effort to hire a Professional Budget Officer to forecast the County's projected revenues accurately. As a director of the Conference of Urban Counties, Commissioner Meyers helped found TechShare, a cooperative purchasing effort by counties, to jointly acquire software, saving urban counties tens of millions of dollars.
